Vinea
Texts and sources
Where the words in Vinea come from, and how far each of them can be relied on.
Please read this about the readings
The Lectionary citations in Vinea have not yet been checked against a printed Lectionary, and should not be relied on for public worship. Which passages are read on which day comes from the citations USCCB publishes for each day's Mass, gathered through a third-party feed, with gaps filled from published tables of the Lectionary for Mass (USA edition). For the Mass itself, follow your parish and the official liturgical books.
Scripture
Vinea uses the Douay-Rheims American Edition of 1899, which is in the public domain. It is not the translation you will hear at Mass in most English-speaking countries, whose translations are under copyright.
The Douay follows the numbering of the Latin Vulgate, which differs from modern Lectionaries for most of the Psalms and some other passages. We map between them and add a note wherever a passage appears under a different number. The Vulgate text of Sirach and Tobit differs from the Greek the Lectionary follows, so those readings can start or end a verse or two away from it. The wording of the psalm response is the Lectionary's and is not reproduced: the response you see is the Douay's rendering of the same verse.
Calendar
The liturgical calendar is calculated by Vinea from the General Roman Calendar and the Table of Liturgical Days: the seasons, the Sunday and weekday cycles, saints' days, ranks, colours and transferred solemnities. Regional calendars can differ from it, so check your diocese for local feasts and holy days of obligation.
